Digital Music Marketing releases the third Wiser Time full-length album "Beggars and Thieves" to digital retailers worldwide, February 14, 2011. The new record is a slight departure from the straight-forward Rock n Roll sound we're used to hearing from this New Jersey, USA band. In the spirit of Valentines Day, we sent lead singer Carmen Sclafani a box of matching candy hearts that read "We Love Wiser Time"...along with a quick list of interview questions that we snuck in there. Good sport that he is, Carmen not only replied, he showed us some extra love by offering up a free track from the new record too - check it out!
Digital Music Marketing "Beggars and Thieves" definitely has the stamp of Wiser Time and is consistent in many ways with your previous albums, but you clearly went in some new territory as far as styles and sounds. Is that something that's important to you?
Carmen Sclafani Very much. You learn a lot and grow the more you do something, and it becomes a natural evolution. If you're open to things, you're always wanting to explore new ground and experiment in some way.

DMM: Where did you draw your inspirations for "Beggars and Thieves"?
CS: From a lot of places and people that I've experienced along the way. So much of the last few years have been spent on the road from place to place on my own. I've really drawn from the experiences, and tried to share some of the stories.
DMM: How would you describe the sound on the new album?
CS: The sound and production is more natural, and a bit more Americana than Rock n Roll. It feels like an album that comes from the water and the ground, not from the street lights of the city.

DMM: As this is your third full-length album, how do you feel you've grown as a singer/songwriter since "There and Back Again", and was there anything you did differently writing and recording this album from the others?
CS: Each album has been its own unique set of circumstances. With "TABA," I was under no pressures or constraints and it was a completely new experience for me to be in a recording studio. It was a little bit of a musical resume for me and the beginning of a transformation creatively. A real sound started to develop with "All For One" and the formation of a band, and it was a labor of love to complete. I was really affected by the times, as were others involved in this project and label, and I felt like I NEEDED to make that record. It was my "What's Going On" kind-of-thing, and I had to get it out right at that moment, no matter what. It was a heavy record for heavy times, but it was written to keep us together through it all. "Beggars" is a place of ease with things, and me feeling comfortable with who I am and how I do what I do. It was such a fun experience recording for me and a real party.
DMM: Do you have a personal favorite on "Beggars and Thieves"? Why is it your favorite?
CS:My favorite is "Take Me Back Home" for a few reasons. It's a true story about a woman named Stormy. It takes me right back to her every time I hear the song, and I feel like I'm driving up the California coast. It's so relaxing.
DMM: Why did you choose Valentine's Day as your digital release date?
CS:"Beggars" was released 12 months ago, almost to the date. With the holidays and Valentine's Day, I thought I'd have some fun with it and do a little art thing called "Show Some Love" You throw a little love out there in the world, and once in a while it sticks ;-)

DMM: You've taken some real chances and have covered a lot of ground musically in a relatively short recording span. What's next for Wiser Time?
CS: Thank you. The next thing is to capture this band in a live recording. Every record has been produced a specific way for specific reasons, but now it's time to showcase what this band is really capable of when we get into a room.
