Since forming in Atlanta over a decade ago, instrumental electronic rock band STS9 continues to be at the forefront of the electronic music scene. Ranked 25 on Pollstar’s list of top grossing touring acts, STS9 truly does it all; from selling out almost every date on their Winter 2010 6-week tour (which ended with the band opening for Jay-Z) to owning their own record label, 1320 Records, to using their voice as a platform for change by raising admirable amounts of money towards their activism efforts; pushing boundaries is all in a days work for STS9. Currently, the 5-piece band is on the road in support of their latest album, Ad Explorata (the tenth in their full discography), which once again finds them exploring new musical terrain. As the band explains, “Ad Explorata was inspired by the idea that there is always more to be discovered, manifested by the belief that you can always push towards the unknown and unexplored, and created by the will and desire for constant artistic evolution, expression and change.” In addition to the release of ADEX and in keeping with XLR8R Magazine’s notion that STS9 is "one of the country's most intriguing, innovative outfits around," June 8th, 2010 brings the release of Axe the Cables, a live album featuring STS9’s noteworthy 1st ever acoustic performance last December in Denver, Colorado. These electronic virtuosos got back to their roots and performed on all acoustic instruments to rave reviews and will continue to do so, in cohesion with electronic plays, as this summer hits. Also, just recently, through per ticket fees and fundraising initiatives, STS9 met their intended one -year goal of raising $150,000 for The Make it Right Foundation to rebuild a house in the lower 9th ward of New Orleans. Other activism efforts will continue this summer, as well. Moreover, STS9’s self-owned 1320 Records, founded on the principles of collaboration, cooperation, and community, is taking off. With over 20 up-and-coming electronic artists, including Big Gigantic, Hefty Record’s John Hughes, Alex B, Eliot Lipp and more, its no wonder 1320 is the go-to digital label for in-the-know music addicts in search of new listening, and for underground indie artists looking to be heard. The goal is of 1320 Records is clear: Bring the music to the people in the most conscious and efficient way possible. By doing so, the distance lessens between artists and fans, putting the power back in the hands of those that make music and those that live for it.
